Herman Melville was an American writer with the masterpiece, Moby Dick to his credentials. He wrote a lot of poetry and other publications throughout his life. He was born on August 1, 1819 and died on September 28, 1891. He was not a popular writer until after his death. Moby Dick is a Romantic novel, published in 1851. It's supposed to be about the American dream, how it can be aloof to many, but still give one the thrill of chasing it. He has been celebrated since his death as one of the greatest writers of all time. He was born in New England, and had been aboard whaling ships, had been left stranded in the South Pacific, and was rescued. This set up his ability to be so familiar with the subject of whaling his book. Herman Melville, also, wrote The Piazza Tales and Pierre.
